# User Settings

## Storage and Performance

CryoSPARC can keep copies of images in your web browser’s built-in storage. When you revisit a page, CryoSPARC can reuse these copies instead of loading the images again, which makes pages appear faster.

This storage, called the **cache**, lives only in the browser you are using. It is separate from your project data, so managing it never affects your projects, jobs, or results.

**Opening the Storage and Performance panel**

1. Open **Settings** from the profile button or the Main Menu.
2. Select **Storage and Performance**.

### **Image Cache**

The top of the panel shows the total number of cached items and their combined size. Use the **Enable image cache** switch to stop or resume using the cache.

{% hint style="info" %}
Turning the cache off does not remove copies that are already stored in your browser. To remove them, use **Clear All Cached Images**.
{% endhint %}

### **Clearing cached images**

Select **Clear All Cached Images** to remove the saved copies from your browser. This does not delete any images or other data from your projects. Pages may load a little more slowly the next time you visit them, while the cache fills up again.

You don’t need to clear the cache regularly. When an area reaches its size limit, CryoSPARC automatically removes older images to make room for new ones.

### **Volume Cache**

The volume viewer operates in a similar way. When you view a 3D map, CryoSPARC saves a lightweight copy of it in your browser so that reopening the same map is instant.

Saved volumes expire automatically after one day. To remove them sooner, select **Clear Volume Cache**. As with images, this only removes the copies stored in your browser and does not delete any volumes from your projects.
